And the Winners are:

Hello Pieceful Quilters,

We managed to snap a shot of everyone that won a prize in the show - except one, so I had to re-use a picture from the previous blog post. We are so proud of all of you!
Thank you to everyone that entered the show. I know it is a little scary putting your "baby" out there for the world to see, not knowing if everyone will love it as much as you do.
I loved them all. Each quilt in the show had a little story to tell, and I was so excited to see some of you who started quilting with us just a few years ago, have come so far!
Congratulations to all of you!
And here are the winners:
First Prize - Judges Overall Favorite
Mary Zenger for "Jo's Little Women Club Challenge 2008"
An original quilt made during a block pattern exchange challenge in our Jo's Little Women Club.
Nice Job, Mary. Who knew Jo had so many Pinks?!?
2nd Prize - Viewer's Choice
Carole Naughton for "Tribute to the Civil War Ladies"
Her own interpretation of Rosemary Youngs' Civil War Diary Quilt,
a long-running club at Pieceful Gathering. Carole was in such too much
of a hurry to complete hers (call it obsession, if you want), so she did
it on her own in just a few months. Yikes!
3rd Prize - Best Bed Size Quilt
Mary Lutz for "Stars Around the Garden"
This was done as a Block-of-the-Month at Pieceful Gathering.
The wonderful pattern from Bits n' Pieces was displayed at the show in a couple of different colorways. Mary's was our Civil War fabrics, and the other was in Kansas Troubles fabrics.
Wow - what a difference the fabric choices can make in the look of a quilt!

3rd Prize - Best Lap Size Quilt
Mary Kerkman for "Starburst"
Another Bits n' Pieces pattern - this was also done as a Block-of-the-Month, although more of them were done through the shop online, or all at once. They were all just lovely. I am such a sucker for those Kansas Troubles fabrics!

3rd Prize - Best Wallhanging
Jean Mueller for "Holiday Inn"
This was a 3-part project that was done in Jo's Little Women Club this year.
You just can't go wrong with Jo Morton's wonderful fabrics! Jean did an especially good job on hers - her piecing and quilting are amazing. Good work!
Special Award - Best Quilt from a Quilt Academy Class
Barbara Dale for "Rail Fence" from the Q101 - Extreme Beginner Class
I have a special place in my heart for our beginners. They all work so hard, and accomplish so much in such a short time. I especially commend those of you that had the courage to enter your first or second quilts in the show. We have all been there, and we know it isn't easy!
Thank you!
Special Award - Pieceful Staff Favorite
Marilyn Randall for "Jamie's Quilt"
Made in Snickel Club from "Loose Change," by Claudia Plett and Le Ann Weaver
Boy, did we have a hard time deciding on this award. There were so many great quilts to choose from! But, when it came down to it, the skill in piecing, choice of colors and placement in the design, and overall beauty of Marilyn's quilt garnered the most staff votes. I don't think any of us would have argued against it, anyway. It was a real winner!
Special Award - Most Unique Quilt
Dawn Swim for "What to do with Orphan Blocks"
This was the multi-level collection of quilted, pieced and embroidered blocks
connected with a creative conglomeration of adjustable straps with buttons.
It was hanging from the side of the stairway, in case you don't remember it.
Unique, unusual, different... I don't think the judges had a hard time with this category!
Sorry about the picture - I'll catch you next time you come in.
Many thanks and Congratulations to everyone that entered.
You are all Winners in my book!
Carrie
